AEG Employee Spotlight: Senior Recruiter Carla Merlotti
Tell us about what you do at AEG.
I am a Senior Recruiter responsible for conducting searches, interviews, and salary negotiations for IT professionals with complex skills required for our clients’ technology roles.
How long have you been with the company?
My 4-year anniversary is coming up in June!
What inspires you most about working on the AEG team?
I enjoy being challenged to take my recruiting skills to the next level each day. Staying on my toes allows me to be the best resource possible for our clients and candidates.
How does AEG support your career and personal goals?
AEG supports my overall wellbeing by allowing me to work a flexible schedule. The collaboration among the team makes me feel comfortable and welcome at work!
What’s the #1 quality you feel is important to achieving success in the staffing industry?
Regularly engaging with people in your industry! Building strong networking skills and actively connecting with candidates and clients will only make your job as a recruiter easier. When an open role pops up, you’ll be ready to fill it!
What are the toughest challenges you’ve had at work? The biggest wins?
Toughest challenge: The skills shortage is a challenge. Since we fill such technical, specific roles, it can be difficult to find professionals who meet the exact needs of clients.
Biggest win: Successfully working at AEG through the pandemic. It was a tough time, but I’m glad I was able to help our jobseekers and clients through it.
What’s a unique trait or something that differentiates you from others in your position?
I have exceptional communication skills. With candidates, it’s easy for me to relate to their desire to find a job, and I enjoy learning about new technology trends.
What’s the biggest benefit to partnering with a staffing firm in a job search/search for talent?
Companies can save time and money by allowing an agency to manage their initial screening and interviewing process. For the candidate, the job search is streamlined: you partner with a skilled recruiter and gain access to multiple employers and jobs (some may not even be publicly listed online!).
If you could give one piece of advice to a candidate/client, what would it be?
For the candidate: know yourself and what you want in a new job.
For the client: try to limit the time spent from interview to offer.
What’s your favorite thing to do in St. Louis?
When I worked downtown, I liked walking around Citygarden. I also enjoy going to the Missouri Botanical Gardens’ Butterfly House and the St. Louis Zoo.
